Reel ('we', 'us', or 'our'), operated by MATTHEW & RONI BLODE PTY LTD, turns screen recordings into structured artifacts that coding agents can act on. This page explains what we collect, where it goes, and how to make it go away.

Reel is a small product run by a small team. The Chrome extension records and exports entirely on your device. Recordings are written to your local Downloads folder and we do not upload them. If anything here is unclear, email support@blode.co.

What we collect

  • Voice audio. The microphone track you record while narrating a bug or change request. Audio is transcribed on your device through the Web Speech API and is not exported as a media file.
  • Click metadata. For each click during a recording: a stable CSS selector, the element's role and visible text, the page URL, and a timestamp relative to the recording start.
  • Screenshots. A still captured at click time and referenced from the timeline by a relative path (./screenshots/click-N.jpg).
  • Keystrokes. Captured by default with automatic masking on password, one-time-code, and payment fields, on any element under [data-reel-mask], and on fields whose name, id, or aria-label matches sensitive patterns. Masked rows record that typing happened but never the typed text.
  • Console and network signals. Console errors and warnings, plus failed network requests, are written to the timeline alongside your clicks.
  • Typed notes. If you press / during a recording or fill the intent field before recording, that text is stored with the recording.
  • Recording metadata. Duration, creation time, and the page URL the recording was started on, kept locally with the recording.

What we don't collect

  • Screen video. Reel uses tab and microphone capture to drive transcription and screenshots while you record. No .webm file is written to disk.
  • Full page DOM snapshots. Reel keeps the selector cascade for the clicked element, not the surrounding markup.
  • The visible text of redacted click targets. When the click target text contains things that look like access tokens, emails, or social security numbers, the value is replaced with a marker like [redacted-token] before it lands in the timeline.
  • Tracking identifiers across sites, browser fingerprints, or cookies from other domains.

Where data lives

All recording data stays on your device. During capture it lives in the extension's storage; on stop, the Markdown bundle and any screenshots are written to ~/Downloads/Reel/<recording-id>/. Reel does not upload recordings, transcripts, or metadata to any server.

Retention

Because Reel never uploads your recordings, retention is fully under your control: delete the folder in ~/Downloads/Reel/ and the data is gone. The extension also keeps recent recordings in its own storage so they appear in the recordings panel; clear the extension's storage from chrome://extensions to purge that history.

Privacy mode

Privacy controls are part of the capture work, but they are not a substitute for choosing what to record. Do not record credentials, secrets, private customer data, or pages you do not have permission to share. Any enabled redaction control should be treated as a guardrail, not as a guarantee.

Subprocessors

Reel does not currently use any subprocessors. Voice transcription runs on your device through the Web Speech API in the browser. No audio is sent to a third party.

Analytics

The current marketing site does not load any analytics script. The extension does not phone home. If we add product analytics later, this policy will name the provider and the signals honored before it ships.

Your rights

Because all recordings live on your device, you can export or delete them yourself by managing the files under ~/Downloads/Reel/. Questions or concerns: email support@blode.co.

Updates

Material changes to this policy are posted here and noted with an updated date stamp. Continuing to use Reel after an update means you accept the revised version.
